At Café Venetia we aim to provide not just coffee, but a center of Italian culture for those who have fallen in love with the Italian lifestyle.
These could be Italians, foreigners who have traveled to Italy and wish to recreate their experiences there, or people who have never visited the country but whose imagination has been captured by its beauty, history, and grand artistic and culinary traditions.
As such, we seek to provide our customers with an authentically Italian experience in all the senses, from its food and beverages to its ambiance and sense of community. In order to provide this experience, the Slow Food movement is our guiding light. This movement is a uniquely Italian invention which directly opposes the fast food culture so present in the American lifestyle.*This means that we strive to preserve tradition from the farm to the table, and serve only natural products which do not contain artificial flavors, preservatives, or pesticides. Specifically, we select only organic dairy, antibiotic-free meat products, and non-genetically modified produce.
In adhering to the Slow Food movement, and in order to achieve our vision of providing an authentically Italian experience, we must make a complex set of choices regarding our suppliers and our production methods. We necessarily rely on importing high-quality foods directly from Italian artisans whose traditional methods of production we are familiar with. Our local suppliers must abide by our strict requirements regarding these production methods. And wherever possible, we make our foods in-house in order to provide our customers with the freshest possible products.
Finally, we seek to create a sustainable existence by reducing waste as much as possible, using reusable ceramics and glassware as a standard. We use paper products upon request and have eliminated plastics altogether. We use only energy- and water-saving equipment to reduce the use of precious resources.
At Café Venetia we are focused on meeting the needs of the Palo Alto citizenry, and as such we are frequent contributors to community events and local efforts; and we are always glad to do our part in the city.
All of this means that at Café Venetia, you can feel like you are in Italy without having to fly halfway across the world.
